For trekkers, backpackers, and outdoor enthusiasts around the world, the Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek is the pinnacle of adventures. The once-in-lifetimejourney takes you through the jaw-dropping Khumbu Valley, up to the base of the world’s tallest mountain – Mount Everest (8848m). The Everest Base Camp Trek is a world-famous trip that is very physically demanding, but infinitely rewarding. The natural highlights of the trek – the Himalayas, diverse lush forests, and the rare wildlife found in this alpine region cannot be missed. Equally beautiful is the Sherpa culture and lifestyle. Sherpas are renowned for their climbing abilities as well as their genuine hospitality.
The trek to Everest Base Camp begins from the tiny airstrip of Lukla. You’ll weave then through the rhododendron and pine forests, and pass through picturesque agricultural fields before arriving to the charming Sherpa villages - Namche Bazaar and Khumjung. Experiencing and observingthe Sherpa culture, including chhortens, mani walls, and other monuments of Tibetan Buddhism increases the allure of the trek. You will also pass by several Tibetan Buddhist monasteries –one of which holds a Yeti scalp for your viewing pleasure.
The Everest Base Camp Kala Patthar Trek is an opportunity to see the massive Himalayan peaks that cross 8000 meters - Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Makalu and many more. The views of Khumbu Icefall and various glaciers are spectacular. Gorakshep (5380m), a tiny mountain village, is the departure point to hike to base camp. Finally, we will have the opportunity to trek up to Kala Pattar (5545m) for the best view of Mt. Everest.
Trekking is possible throughout the year, but Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) provide the best weather. During the Spring, there is a bit more color and the rhododendrons are blooming, and in the Autumn months, the skies are generally clearer. The Everest Base Camp Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Rugged Trails Nepal arranges the trek with complete management.
