Our Gokyo Valley Lake Trek is an adventurous journey leading to some of the most prized treasures of the Khumbu region. The path takes us into Gokyo Valley, one of the highest settlements in Nepal.  You’ll see all of the massive snowy peaks that are characteristic of the Everest region, including some of the world's renowned 8000-meter peaks.  But the real gem of this trek comes when you reach the glacial Gokyo Lakes. During our exploration day in Gokyo Valley, we hiked to Gokyo Ri (Gokyo Peak), the most exciting part of the trek. You will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime view of glaciers, peaks, and the jaw-dropping turquoise, shimmering Gokyo Lakes.

The journey to Gokyo Valley is a pleasant stroll along a rough trail while the Everest alpine scenery is all around you. The Gokyo Lake Trek begins in Lukla, which is considered the gateway to Everest region trekking. The trail goes through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and continues into Gokyo Valley. The emerald-green lakes along the route to Ngozumpa Glacier are truly unique.  It is as if these beautiful lakes came out of nowhere. The hike up to Gokyo Ri (5360m) offers a stunning panorama of the Everest Himalayan range, especially amazing if you can make it for the sunrise. Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the surrounding peaks can be seen from here.

It is not just the natural beauty that makes this trek so special. Throughout, you will be able to see the Tibetan Buddhist lifestyle of the local people. Buddhist monasteries, chhortens, and other fascinations of the Sherpa people are visible along the trek. Finally, the trail descends all the way down to Lukla and heads back to Kathmandu. If you want to gear up for the Chola Pass and Everest Base Camp within 15 days, then we have set up a 15-day trek itinerary for Gokyo Ri Everest Base Camp

When is the best time to trek in the Everest Region to Gokyo Lake?

Trekking is possible throughout the year, but spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) provide the best weather.  During the spring, there is a bit more color and the rhododendrons are blooming, and in the autumn months, the skies are generally clearer.  The Gokyo Lake Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Rugged Trails Nepal arranges the trek with complete management. Please feel free to contact us for more detailed information.

Our 14-day Gokyo lake trekking itinerary is designed for you to fully immerse yourself in the Himalayas. Recognizing that you have traveled a great distance, we have crafted a schedule that allows you to savor every moment. This itinerary is perfectly suited for beginners and seniors, as it prioritizes proper acclimatization and breathtaking views without any rush.

To enhance your experience, we have included a full day at Gokyo Lakes, giving you ample time to explore the fifth lake and enjoy both sunrise and sunset views from Gokyo Ri. For those with a tighter schedule, we offer an alternative 12-day trekking itinerary (link) for the Gokyo Lakes. Pricing for this option will differ, so please contact us for more information. 10 Days Gokyo Lake Trekking Itinerary is from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.
