Island Peak (Imja Tse) is a popular trekking peak at 6,189m in the Khumbu region of Nepal in the Chhukung valley, on top of the Chhukung glacier between Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. Island Peak has been described as the extension of the ridge from the southern end of Lhotse, and sits like an island in the sea of ice, therefore taking the name Island Peak. Island peak draws both experienced and new climbers alike, providing majestic views of the Himalayas that surround the peak, including Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Middle, Lhotse Shar, Mt. Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam, which all tower over 8,000 meters.
Our climb begins in the Sherpa village of Chhukung, following by a hike to Island Peak Base Camp, where a fully organized tent camp is set up, and climbers practice the mountaineering skills to be used on summit day. This is an exciting opportunity for those wanting to gain mountaineering skills, or for those training for more challenging expeditions in the Himalayas. Island Peak climbing is easily attached to the Everest Base Camp Trek or other trekking routes in the Everest region.
