During this trek, you will climb some of the highest and most scenic passes in the region, including Renjo La Pass (5338m), Chola La Pass (5368m), and Kongma La Pass (5535m). Other highlights include Gokyo Ri (5357m), Fifth Lake, Kalapattar (5643m), and Everest Base Camp (5500m). Because this trek is strenuous, for your own comfort, you should be physically fit and have previous experience trekking or hiking.

Challenging and Difficult Treks in Nepal 2024: Trekkers Choice

The Everest Three High Passes Trek starts at Lukla (2828m) and follows the Dudh Koshi valley, which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, a bustling bazaar that's a junction for trekkers, the local Sherpa people, and climbing expeditions en route to the mighty Mt. Everest. All along this trail, you will have opportunities to observe and engage with friendly Sherpa people, picturesque villages, the variety of cultures and traditions of the mountain people, colorful festivals, and monasteries. The flora and fauna are other ornaments of Sagarmatha National Park.

The three-pass trekking is continuously rewarded with dramatic Himalayan scenes, including four of the world's eight highest peaks: Cho Oyu (8,201m), Makalu (8,463m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Everest (8,848 m), and other mountains. This is a kind of circuit trek. We ascend all the way to Lungden for Renjo La Pass (5338m). Renjo La Pass provides a lifetime memory of panoramic views of Everest and other Himalayan ranges. The Renjo-La Pass route is off the usual beaten track. At the Pass, a great view of the Gokyo lakes on one side, the Rermo Pokhari lakes on the other side, and numerous snowy peaks are in the background, which provides an incredible atmosphere. An excursion to the fourth and fifth lakes would be an extra attraction in Gokyo Valley, where the views are great. The Ngozumpa Glacier is the largest in the Nepal Himalayas.

The Gokyo Ri (5330 m/17487 feet) is considered the best viewpoint in the entire Everest Region. After exploring this imaging place, we cross over the Chola-La pass (5368m) to make our way to Everest Base Camp. We also have a chance to visit Kalapather (5550m, close view of Everest) and Everest base camp (5364m, Khumbu icefall). Kong Ma-La Pass (5535m) is the highest pass of these three passes. The views are excellent from the top of Kongma La Pass. After a nice view from the Kongma-La top, the trail descends via Dingboche and Tengboche. We then trek down, making our way back down to Lukla.

The Everest Three High Passes hike can be done clockwise or anti-clockwise. We can organize it according to your desires and requirements, clockwise or anti-clockwise. Rugged Trails Nepal will assist you in this place where the friendly and welcoming people of this area will only make this experience in this region one that will make you return with their unique sense of tradition and culture.

You usually have lunch at about noon while traveling to the next location after a three to four-hour trip. We will take a short break after lunch before continuing. Most guides would advise you to choose a short meal because we could have to wait a while for our dinner during the high season.

It usually takes two to three hours less to walk in the afternoon. You can munch on the additional dietary food after you get at your overnight lodging or teahouse. You are then free to wander about or discover surrounding locations for sunset. It is better to avoid napping in the afternoon at such a high altitude.
Dinner will be served between 6 and 7 o'clock. You can spend some time with the rest of your colleagues having cordial chats before heading to bed. The itinerary for the following day will be explained by our guide. After this introduction, you can play cards, read a book, share cultural experiences, study Nepalese, and other things. However, after we're at a high altitude, we'll use phones to talk. Throughout the journey, our guides will keep us updated through WhatsApp, Messenger, or phone conversations. Before traveling to the Himalayas, get local SIM cards in Kathmandu if you wish to use them. In the Mountains, mobile signal strength could be insufficient.

Electricity and water on the Everest 3 High Passes trek

You can charge your cell phones, camera batteries, and other electrical devices everywhere. However, the majority of the time you have to spend between $1 and $3 for it. For the hike, we advise you to get a portable power bank.
