Manaslu Circuit Trek Conditions: Recent Snowfall & Larkya La Pass Update

Published: Wednesday, Apr 08, 2026

Current weather reports from the Manaslu Circuit Trek indicate significant snowfall across the higher elevations of the Gorkha region. While the lower trail remains accessible, the weather shifted yesterday, bringing consistent snow to areas above Shyala. This spring snowfall is currently affecting the onward journey toward Samagaon, Samdo, and Dharmashala. As of today, the snowfall continues, creating a beautiful but challenging alpine environment for trekkers navigating the Manaslu conservation area.

For those currently on the trail, the journey up to Samdo (3,875m) remains possible with the right winter gear and caution. However, conditions become significantly more demanding beyond the village. The ascent to Dharmashala (Larkya Phedi) and the final push over the Larkya La Pass (5,160m)—the highest point of the trek—are currently experiencing deep snow accumulation. Crossing the pass during active snowfall is difficult and requires high-quality waterproof gear, micro-spikes, and an experienced guide to ensure safe navigation.

This weather pattern is not isolated to the Manaslu region; recent reports show fresh snow across other major trekking routes in Nepal, including the Everest Base Camp trek, Mardi Himal, and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). At Rugged Trails Nepal, our teams are currently on the ground with groups across these regions. We are monitoring the situation hourly to ensure all trekkers remain safe. If you are planning to cross the Larkya La in the coming days, we recommend staying in Samdo to wait for a clear weather window and consulting with local teahouse owners and guides before proceeding toward the pass.
